I love wilderness raft trips, and I've been lucky enough to have floated through the Grand Canyon a few times. To say the least, it's an inspiring place, defies description in words, and I've written several tunes there, will soon be releasing a compilation of songs inspired by the Grand Canyon and other river canyons.
Jim Averitt wrote this song and although it wasn't written as a 'river song', to me it fits the mood of many stretches of the canyon, and he was kind enough to let me include it on the CD.
Jim wrote it as a solo guitar piece and the title is “Fireworks.” I asked him if I could add a mandolin part for the CD and we call this version “Tapeats Canyon Fireworks.” Tapeats Canyon is a beautiful part of the trip, and there are several shots from that area, but this slideshow isn't limited to photos of Tapeats Canyon or Tapeats sandstone.
The Grand Canyon is one of the most scenic river trips on the planet, and I've taken way too many photos there. I'm a musician who owns a camera, not a photographer, but in a place like that, I thought that if I just kept shooting, I was bound to get some decent shots. In addition to my pics, there are photos by Buddy Drake, Bud Thulberry and Greg Sharp.
Jim is playing an amazing baritone guitar built by Kevin Kopp and I'm playing my favorite Weber mandolin, both locally crafted instruments.
