Here's a quick overview about what I play and who with...
Crazy Mountain Billies started somewhere between South Dakota, Montana, and Hollywood, CA - where A.P. Bormes was out creating a distinctive new genere of americana music with traditional folk insturments. The sound combines ultra fast paced dark, eerie rythms with bright melodies performed in a traditional folk singer/songwriter context- and has been described as hardcore bluegrass.
The C.M.B. sound on the records is created through multi-track recording- where the initial track gets recorded, and then other instruments are overdubbed in layers on top of that and then played back simultaneously. The instruments include: 5 and 6-string banjo, vocals and vocal harmonies, mandolin, acoustic guitar, slide guitar, classical guitar, 4 and 5 string bass, autoharp, jaw harp, tin whistle, harmonica, washboard, vibraslap, shakers, etc...
The first two albums "Don't Move Or I'll Shoot" and "Badlands" were recorded between South Dakota, Hollywood, CA, and Montana- where they were later completed in 2009. "Badlands II" was recorded in Montana as well, then released in Feburary 2010. "Badlands III" was recorded in the Black Hills of South Dakota and released April 15 2011. C.M.B. is now touring the West coast and Midwest in support of the new record and is working on upcoming albums to be recorded and released this summer.
