Montana Musicians

Okay, now we all travel sometimes far, sometimes near for The Festival. It's done and been done around SW MT here with different promoters and varying results. I can name a few which I personally had fun and wish we (me) could get into a regular groove...Cardwell, Vooties at the fairgrounds, Holy Bucket, Big Sky, what else? I moved here after Front Porch Pickin and probably missed too many backyard parties to speak of, let alone Doc's fiddlers picnic every year. Help me remember some other ones and how we can keep it up!

hey there
The Bozeman Bluegrass festival will be in its 3rd season this year. This year (Fall, date TBA)) will be inside at the Crawford theater in the Emerson. Season 1 and 2 were on the Emerson lawn and the weather didn't deal us a solid:) We have had the great support of local business sponsorship from Music Villa, Cactus Records, KBOZ Radio, Gibson Guitar, and The BoZone.

We received great feedback but the attendance was lacking...with enough momentum this will be a great thing for our music community. We (me) have a mission to try to only have MT musicians and MT arts and crafts at this event.
Drop me a line if you are interested in participating this year. Past bands include: The Meatskin Jubilee Jugband, Broken Valley Roadshow, The JillBillies, The Bridger Creek Boys, Savage Creek, Jawbone Railroad, Stormy Creek, and a few others that I can't get out of my bluegrassy brain:)

Yeah Matt, it would be great to see this festival keep going and growing, we need a good one around here. We'd love to participate. Maybe having one or two larger regional or national acts (as affordable!) would help boost attendance? Keep it strong!

Hey Russ. In response to your "what else?", I have to say that my family is REALLY into bluegrass music, and have created a new Venue in West Yellowstone. We have left our Monday night open for special events, and hope to get a steady stream of bands to come, enjoy the park, enjoy the audience here and have a good experience. We own a little mom-and-pop motel, and are willing to put up musicians in our rooms for events. You can see our venue space at www.pineconeplayhouse.com where we are doing pretty well with two shows.

Anywho - Thought I'd put a bug in your ear about our venue and see if you were interested, or knew of others who were willing to help us get our calendar started with some bluegrass.

Jeff,

Sounds like a great venue! I liked the way the stage looked on the website. I'll get something together and contact you. Cheers!

Russ, Candace and Dave Payne host "Doc's picnic" in Livingston now. It's always the first weekend in August.
where is it held now? Is it still on Doc's property? I haven't been in a few years due to schedule conflicts, but want to go this year. I am still waiting to hear back from the Ellen about the date for the 3rd Annual Bozeman Bluegrass Festival...I will have a media blitz when we lock down the date, so get ready!!!

Hey Russ;

Some people in our young organization think it's too early for our new venue to be thinking about hosting a bluegrass festival, I'm wondering if there's enough interest to schedule a medium to medium large event around President's Day holiday this winter. I wish I had the magic beans to throw out in the parking lot and have something wonderful like that happen just before Yellowstone Park closes in October, knowing that the particular after-school-has-started visitor seems to be more attracted to our particular language of music than the average snowmobiler... but I could be wrong.

Thoughts?
