After Paul's mention of such, I figured it would be easy for people to think of their favorite guitar players. Or at least some haha. Here's mine, not in any specific order. I just cited specific works that really stuck with me.
1 Adam Jones - Tool
2 Robert Fripp - King Crimson
3 Frederik Thordendal - Meshuggah/Special Defects
4 Larry LaLonde - Primus
5 Jimmy Page - Led Zeppelin
6 Stephen Carpenter - Deftones
7 Jerry Cantrell - Alice in Chains/Solo
8 Andy Summers - The Police
9 Eric Clapton - Cream/Solo
10 James Taylor
1. John Petrucci (Dream Theater, Liquid Tension Experiment, Solo (Suspended Animation)
2. Joe Satriani (Mostly known by solo, has a new band called Chickenfeet (or something similar))
3. Andy Timmons (Andy Timmons Band, Danger Danger)
4. Dimebag Darrell (Pantera)
5. Chris Broderick (Megadeth)
6. Eric Johnson (Solo as far as I know)
7. Kirk Hammett (Metallica, riffs only, solos aren't that great in my humble opinion)
8. Paul Gilbert (Mr. Big, solo)
9. Guthrie Govan (Solo, amazing jazz fusion player)
10. Randy Rhodes (Quiet Riot, Ozzy)
These aren't in a perfect order, they're just the players that came to mind (although Petrucci will always be king for me). Also there's plenty I couldn't fit in (Vai, Mustaine, Freidman, Hetfield, Wylde, Hendrix, Paige, EVH, etc...)
I was also pleasantly surprised to see Petrucci, Timmons, Satriani, and Gilbert come up multiple times. Montana isn't exactly the greatest scene for prog and the like.
